| My 95 Single Turbo Supra |

| For my 24th birthday, Katie gave me an
Apex AVC-R. Kind of complicated to use but I is really nice
looking. I then bought a used Greddy 3 row FMIC from Tommy Wong and
traded my Blitz Bov for his Greddy Type-R. I highly do not recommend
the Greddy Type-R bov with stock twins. I had a very weird lag in
between upshifts that was caused from having a blow off valve that was
letting too much air out causing the system to have to re-pressurize.
My buddy Phung Nguyen gave me a HKS Cam gear. Lester and I put
everything on and by September 2001, the car was ready for the dyno. I dynoed that day and put down 398 rwhp on 94 octane gas and about 18 psi. I was so upset that the car didn't break 400 rwhp marker. Little did I know or understood that if I had 104 octane I would have been well on my way. Rich and Dave both broke 400 rwhp marker with their 100 octane and 20 psi and they had less mods. That is when I went home and spoke to Dusty Womack. He sold me on the idea of getting a PHR street kit. He told me that it wouldn't cost me more than 4k and take about 2 weeks. Haha. I was definitely naive. Well I had to get everything together once I decided to do it. Katie gave in and let me have the turbo kit. I had to get the Apex AFC and TRD twin disc clutch. Donald helped me drop my car off at Powerhouse and after 8 weeks, extra $4000 in addition to the other initial $4000, 2 trips to BFE Rusk, TX, the car was finally going to be heading home. Allegedly, Jarrett Humphries said the car made 574 rwhp. If you looks at the dyno sheet, the car was definitely not tuned at all. The car had some serious bugs that I had to work out. I ended up having to buy VPC, AFR, EZ all because either Powerhouse couldn't get the Apex stuff to work or their kit to work without stalling. I guess if you want something done right, you either have to do it yourself or watch them while they do it. My car had boost creeps from the wastegate being to stiff, boost lag from the blow off too loose, bolts and screws were missing, car ran awfully rich, fuel controller not properly configured, bad oil return line, fuel line hanging, leaking fuel line, leaking coolant and blew twelve 30 amp fuses, etc. I even lost to Rich in a race because of the tuning problem. The car at partial throttle was horrible. This wasn't for long though... I was naive to think that I could just drop off a car and get back a 650 bhp car that required little work. You have to pay to play and you have to stay on top of everything to make sure the beast runs. I first went out and fixed all the bugs. One by one... Then I took a look at reinventing and making the kit better. I put on a four inch intake from Sound-Performance. I spoke with K&N and they said I need a bigger intake vs the 3 inch that PHR gave me. Then I decided to get my own wideband. I eventually got an fjo wideband. I also had a custom radiator plate and heat shield made in addition to wrapping the exhaust housing and midpipe with exhaust wrap. My underhood temperature fell dramatically. My friend Angel Robles Jr. came to visit one week from Orlando. Lance Worlab was here on vacation too. After a nice friendly races with some local Corvettes, we managed to blow my front main seal. Angel was behind the wheels so he felt horrible. I was just feeling sick. Atleast I managed to take a Zo6 out and a C4 that had a 150 shot. I avenged my buddy Rich who had barely fallen to the Zo6. I pick up the phone at 2 am and call no other than the legendary Lester Folse. He told me to tow the car to the dealership. My Zo6 friend, Tyrone, had it arranged. Thanks Tyrone. I couldn't sleep at all.. At 7:50 am Saturday morning, I called Da Man himself... Yes Jeff Watson. I told him what happened and he had everything I needed sent to Toyota New Orleans by Monday morning. I had to take the day off from work and sit at the dealership the entire day. I spoke to Larry @ Sound Performance for tips in changing the oil pump. Less than 72 hrs, me five pounds lighter, after the incident the Supra or how Katie calls it... Doopra was back on the road. One night I was left stranded again, but this time it was due to Powerhouse leaving my actuators where they could get wet and ground out. I got so frustrated after I fixed it that I had to put the car up for sale. I went to Texas for a Supra meet and came home not sure if I wanted to. I even dynoed the car and put down 523 rwhp @ 20.5 psi boost. What it took Powerhouse 27 pounds of boost took me barely 20 psi. I had some serious offers. I had one 17 yr kid that had his mom drive from Houston to test drive the car. He couldn't even drive stick. I had to be the responsible one and I told her I could not sell him this car with a clean conscience. I don't need the money that bad. I spent too much time and effort in getting the car running the way it is to let some kid not appreciate it and kill my dream. My local group was trying to convince me not to sell. Sean couldn't believe that the person he knew that the loves the Supra flame was gone. Greg was one of the original New Orleans Supra guys. He bought the same exact wheels as Terry. Whenever I saw his car, I always saw Terry. I started this project nearly 4 yrs ago and continued on was to complete Terry's dream. Greg offered me the wheels for a great price. Lester and I made and oath to finish this car and so we did. I took the sale down and focused on finishing. This is exactly one year after I got my AVC-R. I went ahead and got High Intensity Discharge Lights from Jeff Watson of Jaymarks. I got custom seat covers from Phung. I got my complete fuel kit from GarageAdvance. While at Angel's house I got to see some serious Supras. We also removed my EGR and rerouted all the vacuums lines which fixed several issues with the VPC. We put my HKS hyper dampeners coilovers II with Goodridge stainless steel brake lines and Motul RBF 600 brake fluid on. We put my Powerslot rotors with Stillen pads on too. We put in Defi boost, egt, fuel pressure and 11,000 RPM Tach gauges in. For some tunes, Donald put a Bazooka 6.5 in preamped tube and Kenwood mp3 player. We also replaced all of my factory speakers with Infinity series. I can still take my targa top off with no problems. Sean painted all my plastic engine parts and my front clip. Let's not forget the Volk AV3. I know if Terry was still alive, he would be proud of what we accomplished. I know he is smiling and looking down at me. This was for you bro.. So you might ask me what do I do now? Well I went ahead and got RID of the PHR Street Kit and changed it up a bit and got the Garage Advance complete GA630 Kit. I am very satisfied with this kit. The fitment and look is great. The performance is unreal. It is nice to finally be rid of PHR!!! We also installed an HKS DLI ignition upgrade. We put new coil packs and Denso Iridium Plugs as well. We also put on HKS Carbon Fiber Titanium 3.75 inch exhaust on the car. I went with an FJO wideband oxygen sensor monitoring system complete with data logging and display from Steve Hayes of Widebando2.com. With all these new modifications, we were able to put down 608 RWHP @ 25.5 psi only. We definitely have some more power we haven't touched. I recently upgraded the turbo to a PTE/GA 710 which is a 71 MM turbo. I put some JUNS 264 Cams and West Coast Racing Valve springs. My buddy Marshall Morgan helped me get everything installed. He also helped me replaced my old valve stem seals and put in a new TRD Twin Disc Clutch. My original that we pulled out was fine but I felt that after two years I needed replace it. We installed a massive radiator from Koyo to help keep everything cool. Motul and Speed bleeders help stop the car with the rotors coming from Powerslot. I installed the Defi Display with water and oil temp sensors. I also installed the Greddy oil relocator kit and Blitz silicone upper radiator hose. I replaced every clamp on the car with tbolt clamps. I recently added Sparco Milano Suede seats to the car. A Racelogic Traction ECU is already in the works. I honestly don't think this is ever going to end :) At 20 psi I managed to squeeze 501 RWHP out of a mustang dyno. The had a nasty miss that was cured with Iridium IK24 and new Optima Blue Starter battery. I keep on telling myself no more mods, but I know I am only lying to myself ;) |
